Where can I go for more help?

There are several people at community colleges across the state that have done Podcasting.  A few of those are listed here but don’t hesitate to inquire of those around you if they know someone who is familiar with Podcasting.  To get started you don’t need to talk with an expert, although the time may come when you do need that level of expertise.  It is helpful to talk with someone that you already know, or to someone that is a friend of a friend.  So just start asking questions and you may be surprised as to who may be able to assist you.

If you need assistance or technical advice, you can contact the following:

Patrick Keough, Faculty
Carteret Community College

*Richard (Rick) Leinecker, Faculty
Rockingham Community College

Talk to the distance education or professional development person on your campus about where to link the file that you create.  You will not be the first person to create audio or media at your college, so find out where other faculty are hosting their podcasts. Your college could have a Webserver set up, could be a member of iTunesU, or could be posting media on their Bb server.

Some suggestions are to:

  • Create slowly, completing a podcast or two and then getting feedback from your students about 1)the content and 2)the mechanics of playing the file. Because podcasting does take time, make sure that you’re giving students information that they find helpful and that they can hear the file you’ve created.
  • Talk to faculty on your campus who have created podcasts. They may have insight or tips that that will save you time. They may even have recorded a good podcast in your discipline that they offer to share.
  • Once you’ve gone through the process of creating a podcast and delivering it to your students, help a Newbie get started.
